PSA Meeting Minutes
A carnation was given to each of the new faces at our meeting today!
Ø Playground Addition- Thank you so much to all who volunteered to help install the new playground!
o $15817.20 for swing set, concrete, fabric, pizza, water, nails, boards, etc.
o Pea gravel was not
o The old Swing was broken when taken out to relocate. A new one costs $3489.50. PHS has already paid $1500 toward it. Balance is $1989.50. PHS asked that we pay half of the balance. Mrs. Stevens made a motion to pay the total balance. Mrs. Cicora seconded. All were in favor.
o Boy Scouts donated an
Ø The Vice President position became open in the summer. Michelle Matthys has been filling in until the present day. A motion was made by Mr. Rehl to have her step back into the role for the next 2 years. A second was made by Rachel Thompson. All were in favor.
Ø Pridewear
o At a meeting on
o 4 bids were collected in total.
o The vote was unanimous.
o Order forms are going out in this Friday folder.
o 3 orders in the school year. Fall, holiday time, and spring.
Ø Back to School Decorations
o Stacy Young-chairperson
o School looked great.
o Some trouble getting volunteers the morning of 1st day of school, so decorations were amended.
Ø Back to School BBQ
o Kris Tierney-chairperson
o Stayed within budget and even made a few dollars profit.
o Comment was made that they didn’t get a soda, even though they paid. No way to control how many pops people were taking. Need better monitoring system.
Ø PSA Directory
o Rachel Thompson-chairperson
o Volunteers have been great. They are almost done, should be out next week.
Ø Scholarship
o Awarded to 1 boy (Nick Bush) and 1 one girl (Kristy Simms) from HHS (PHS alumni) going to college.
o 9 applicants in total this year who wrote an essay about how PHS furthered their education. A committee was formed and essays were read and voted on.
Ø Kyle Wright came in to speak about the Junior National Leadership Conference he attended this summer in
o PSA sponsored him $500 out of our Angel Fund.
o Mr. Rehl commented that he received emails from the leaders of the conference saying that Kyle was “exemplary”.
Ø BooHoo Breakfast
o First year for gathering after parents dropped their kinders off for the first day of school.
o About 40 people in the morning and much less in the afternoon due to a busing complication.
o Suggestions were made to provide nametags next year and also to detail some of the PSA events.
Ø Mrs. Williams requested to have a parent volunteer to take pictures of the Junior High classroom events and submit them to the local papers.
o For example: Shakespeare Day, and when “Ulysses S. Grant” comes to PHS.
Ø Jump In .Magazines were offered to all who attended.
Ø Jog-A-Thon-October 3, 2008
o K-4 is from 1-1:45 p.m. and 5-8 is from 9-9:45.
o Goal is for each student to raise $35.
o Packets are going home on 9/19/08
o Assembly will be on Monday September 22nd.
o Volunteers still needed.
Ø Market Day is in need of help. They are very short on volunteers.
o Pie Push is coming up.
Ø Family Culver’s Night
o PSA would get 10% of the profit
o 5-8 p.m. on a given night
o Possibly one in the fall and one in the spring.
o Stephanie Koch will handle posters/flyers/silent auction table at Culver’s.
Ø There is a Culver’s Cake Fundraiser if PSA is interested.
o Students sell cakes for $19.00 give one slip to purchaser and one slip to Culver’s. Students do no delivery. People are given a designated week to come get their cakes.
o Possible Junior High Fundraiser.
Ø PSA is considering doing a PSA Cookbook.
o Every other year would probably be ideal. Maybe a Mother’s Day event. Haven’t done it in 8 or 9 years.
o Need chairperson.
Ø PSA is putting together a Tree of Thanks in the main hall to acknowledge all of our helpful volunteers.
Ø A Big Thank You to all chair people, volunteers, and staff!
Ø Jean Carroll requested money for a DVD/VCR unit for her room. Mrs. Partlow commented that hers cost $70. Jennifer Sahy made a motion to pay up to $100 for it. A second was made by Noel Keister. All were in favor.
Ø PHS requested that we split a DVD/CD changer for the gym. We do get a lot of use out of it as well with our events like the roller skating parties and the dance. Total is 214.96, they are asking we pay $107.48. A motion was made by Mrs. Cicora and a second by Mrs. Anderson. All were in favor.
Ø Mrs. Coomer requested $40/year for her classroom teacher website. Suggestions were made to use part of her $100 teacher reimbursement for it. Another suggestion from the faculty was that “school notes” is a free website to teachers. The motion was tabled until further information was received.
Ø Thank you notes from Mrs. Reynolds, all 4th grade staff, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Partlow & class, Ms. Allen, Mrs. Cicora, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Furmanek, Mrs. Wickline, and Mrs. Williams. Also a note was received from the scholarship recipients.
Ø The next meeting is scheduled for October 6, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
Ø The raffle basket was won by Wendy Gunderson.

- Smart Board Systems
- Voice Amplification Systems for the classrooms
- Technology upgrades for classrooms & PHS
- Many other requisitions made by staff & parents during the year to enhance the needs of the body at PHS
o The Jog-A-Thon is PSA’s only intended fundraiser for the year
